Numbers 22:6-7 King James Version (KJV)
6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
Numbers 22:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 Therefore please come at once, curse this people for me, for they aretoo mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”
7 So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the diviner’s fee in their hand, and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak.

6 Although it was thought he had this much power, he didn’t because he wasn’t God. Curses of those days often had power, if they were cursed it is likely his plan could have worked but they had the Lord. We have the Lord so we shouldn’t be brought down by the curses of the Lord.
7 This honorarium was not the payment but a show of their respect and that there would be more to come if he helped them. They are trying to get help. This world will seek help in their way but as Christians we need to seek help from God and in His ways.
